I’ve been mulling this over for a few days, and I can’t see it any other way…. The movie “Minions” was a spectacular disappointment.
I loved Minions. I had been crazy excited about the movie opening in Dubai so I could finally see it. My friend and I got tickets for the first available showing thanks to a google alert showing us that they were on sale. That’s how seriously we took this movie. That’s how excited we were.
But what a waste of build up. There are moments of comic genius in the movie… most of which you have seen in the trailers.
Kevin, Stuart and Bob are cute. There is no denying that. However, they are not strong enough to carry a movie. It could have been really very good. It had such potential.
I think the story was a bit too much – far too much happening in a short space of time. If they had just stuck to the Minions trying to achieve the original crime (I’m trying to not be a spoiler!) a few times and failing, it would have been funnier. There was just too many changes. I know it left the kids in the theater very confused in places due to the amount of adults having to explain what was going on.
In conclusion, I think this movie was pushed out at break neck speed to take advantage of the success of Minions in Despicable Me 1 and 2. However, having re-watched both movies in advance of seeing Minions, it’s the whole movie that makes it such a success, not just these strange little alien creatures.
I will always be fond of them, but am no longer a “fan”, which makes me quite sad.
