Happy New Year!

Ok, so we are 19 days in to the new year but the sentiment still counts!

It’s been a bit hectic.  The Boy and I decided VERY last minute to fly back to the UK and surprise my Mum for Christmas.  I think it worked too…

She may kill me for this picture!  That’s my niece behind her, coming to see what all the fuss was about!!

My awesome sister had bought us the absolute BEST jammies in the entire world, ever.  Our family tradition is to have new sleep wear on Christmas Eve.  I don’t remember every set that has ever been bought, but I cannot imagine them getting any better than this…

She defo will kill me for this.  She would also like me to say that she is 5 months pregnant, and I was jet lagged!!

We had a lovely time, including a Christmas lunch each AND a Christmas dinner!  It was the first ever one I have cooked and I was so proud of myself… and felt more stuffed than the turkey!!

Christmas dinner for two!  It was amazing!

My sister did an amazing Christmas lunch.  The turkey was the biggest I have seen in absolutely years, and she cooked it to absolute perfection.

Killer Turkey!

Then, she literally filled our plates with so much vegetables and trimmings that we didn’t have much room for the turkey – or the ham!  Yep, two meats!

Mine was the small portion of veggies.  Yep.  Seriously.  This was my sister’s idea of small!

Boxing Day was the usual – eating chocolates and leftovers.  I may love Boxing Day a little more than I love Christmas Day!  Definitely after I made amazing leftover sandwiches.  They deserve a post all of their own.  In the meantime, here was our boxing day lunch.

Did you spot the waffles!?  So retro!!

The time between Christmas and New Year was spent trying to visit with people (but 90% of people were out when we popped by!) and eating more chocolate.  And more leftovers.  Thankfully both The Boy and I prefer turkey to chicken, so we never got bored of that.

New Year’s Eve was a very casual thing… we went out for a beautiful Indian meal (totally having a separate post for that!) before heading home at 11pm to make sure we were there for the dogs who are afraid of fireworks – and to open both the front and the back doors to say goodbye to the last year and welcome the coming one.  There was also champers.

Happy New Year!!

Then disaster struck… I got a cold!  I rarely get colds so you know it’s a violent strain of the stupid bug if it gets through my immune system.  I was so incredibly ill.  I spent the day in bed.

2nd of January meant that I had to go out for a walk and hope that the cold blew away the germs.

Bloody freezing, clutching my peppermint tea for dear life!

It was cold but apparently not cold enough.  I didn’t feel any better.  Pizza Express was needed in order to make up for this shock to the system.  Then back to bed.

3rd of January saw me flying back to Dubai.  I can honestly say I have never felt as awful on a flight.  Not even waking up halfway back from Johannesburg with a raging hangover could compare.  By the time we landed I was deaf in one ear, and the other sounded like I was under water.

I went home and went to bed.  I got up on the morning of the 8th.  I went to work, and then was sent home for being germy.  They also made me go see the doctor, who said that the cold had gone and left me on the brink of a chest and throat infection, but also that I had acute sinusitis.

A week later I returned to work still feeling groggy but much better than I was.  Oh, and did I mention that I had to move in that time too?!  Goodbye to my asshole of a landlord, and hello to a lovely new place!

So that’s me all caught up now.  Well, you all caught up because I know what I’ve been up to!!  I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and New Year, and that 2017 is your best yet!

Happy reading!

  1. Hahahaha that photo of your mum and neice cracked me up. Happy belated New Year again!!!!!

    1. What you can’t see is my very confused nephew! He’s 6 but is autistic and has developmental delays. I wasn’t where I was meant to be so he stood calling for his mummy to “help Grandma”!! It was adorable. He expressed concern so well ❤️
