Dinner Win!!

I totally had an amazing win for dinner last night!  It was so good that The Boy declared it one of my best kitchen experiments, ever!

After coping a mouthful of abuse from a dickhead on Facebook, I was a bit disheartened in my Slimming World cooking efforts.  I felt that I should be making ‘no syn’ food more often, especially in Free Food Feb. There is a hashtag for it and everything, so I really felt like a failure that literally none of my food is ever syn free.

Then I got mad!  I am so much better when I am mad!  I refrained from my initial abusive response, because as my BFF Albert always says “you shouldn’t be mean to people who don’t have the intelligence to understand a basic insult”, and instead thought about my approach to Slimming World.

I don’t have a glass of wine from one week to the next, so don’t need to save X syns for my daily consumption.  Some people do and I don’t judge that.  It’s just not me.  When I do have wine, no amount of saved syns is going to help me anyway so I just take it on the chin!

I don’t eat sweets or chocolate.  As you may know from a previous post, I tend to go a bit nuts if I have sugar and it’s hard to cut myself off again.  It’s best avoided and as such, I don’t really need my syns for that either.

Crisps are my major weakness, but again I can’t be trusted to just have a few and move on, so I don’t allow myself any except maybe at the weekends for a treat which The Boy has to monitor so I don’t have 10 packets. No syn saving required there as one packet of French Fries is only 4 syns.  Not my crisps of choice, but enough to give me the salty crunch hit that I love.

Instead I use my syns to add flavour and layers to my cooking.  Last night it was for my amazing sauce to top boring plain fish.  On my Burger Blow Out, it was the ketchup and mayo to flavour out the burger.  Although, I might tag that as a #FreeFoodFeb meal because if you used SW BBQ sauce, and omitted the ketchup and mayo it would be.  I will make that this Thursday again and post it!!

Anyway, so that’s me.  I am the one who adds a little butter to a jacket potato because I like how it tastes.  I will add an extra bit of cheese to a bacon sandwich because I like how mature cheddar works with bacon.  I will add a dash of oil when I am making some types of fries in my Actifry.  I will add a bunch of chorizo to my tomato sauce to flavour it out.

So fuck you angry man.  You are ugly inside and out.  I am simply fat so can lose the weight.  Your personality is with you for life.

And on that note, which is still MUCH politer than my initial response to his post, I will post my yummy sauce recipe!

CHORIZO & RED VEG SAUCE

Ingredients

  • 6 large ripe tomatoes
  • 1 medium red onion
  • 1 medium red pepper
  • 1 medium red chili
  • 2 garlic gloves
  • 100g Spanish Chorizo (unless you’re in Bermuda then get that amazing fresh stuff from any of the grocery stores which I still really miss!)

Method

  1. Dice all the ingredients, except the garlic which needs to be pureed (squished under a knife until it’s a goo).
  2. In a hot frying pan, add the onion and chorizo.  Cook until onion is starting to turn.
  3. Add garlic and finely diced red chilli, and heat through for a couple of minutes whilst continually stirring.
  4. Add the rest of the ingredients and reduce heat to medium-low.
  5. Simmer for minimum half an hour.
  6. Serve and enjoy!

Additional Information

The Chorizo syns vary, but the one I used is 100g for 10 syns.  The sauce made four portions so it works out at 2.5 syns per serving.  I heaped this on top of plain baked hake – no seasoning or butter.  I accompanied it with mashed potato made with cottage cheese and a couple of tbsp of creme fraiche.  Per portion it was 1 syn.

Any questions, please let me know in the comments section below.

Happy Munching!!

I’ve been tagging all my meals #freefoodfeb this month most have syns but the building blocks of free food are there haha. I loved this post! You sound so similar to me, it really made me laugh out loud 😂
Ignore the syn police 👮 they’re the same people who tell us avocados are bad and a mashed banana has syns!

    1. Haha! I gave up on my quest for syn free dinners. It’s boring and unimaginative!!!

  2. Haters gonna hate sadly. File it under ‘brain donors’ and move on safe in the knowledge that he will inflict himself upon the wrong person soon enough and regret attempting to progress past a single cellular life form. 😉

Keep doin what you’re doin 👍🏽

    1. Thanks Davey! I am normally not bothered by idiots, but so close to sabotaging myself last week it was harder to take than normal. P.S. I love how you wrote that… so elegant and insulting at the same time!! 🙂
